A note from Vice Principal DeWitt
Regency Park Elementary School Community,
I have been in education for 15 years. I taught 1 year of 4th grade, 3 years of 3rd grade, 3 years of 2nd grade. I have a Reading Credential and I taught reading intervention for 2 years and I was a Reading First Literacy Coach for my last 5 years, before I came to Madison as VP.
I have been Fairbanks Teacher of the Year. I have a law degree (Juris Doctorate) and I passed the California State Bar in December of 2007. I was President of the Del Paso Heights Teachers Association. I sat on numerous adoption and district committees. I have been on Leadership Team, Student Study Team, and School Site Council. I have worked extensively with after school programs for the past 13 years. I have been an Academic Alignment Coach for Sacramento Start and Center for Fathers and Families. I have worked with Supplemental Vendors such as Target Excellence, Extreme Learning, Derrell Roberts Family Development Center and others. I taught MESA, Math, Engineering and Science Achievement (Math and Science Club) which is a program to prepare under-represented groups for college. I have presented district and site workshops on components of reading including fluency, phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, and writing. I also taught CBET classes to adults learning English. I believe that all children can learn, and that they can learn faster when their basic needs have been met. My job as an educator is to make sure that each and every child feels valued, welcomed and important. Active student engagement is a number one priority. Every child needs to answer every question, every day. If we can do that, then there will be no achievement gap.
I am very pleased to be joining the wonderful team at Regency Park. I look forward to working with the students, staff, parents and community. I hope to meet you all very soon.
-Ms. Jakki DeWitt, Vice Principal
